Johnny Cloud Book

If you want to know everything there is about Johnny Cloud then this book is for you. At over 250 pages including extreme Geek Notes, this Critical Review & Analysis is for the DC War Comic Fan that wants -- no needs -- to gather every factoid about Cloud for its own sake.

Geeks are sometimes confused with Nerds. They overlap, but they are not the same. Geeks are info hounds that dig up facts to experience the high. That's fandom. Nerds, on the other hand, are more interested in useful, or potentially useful, information -- like learning Fortran. There is no Fortran in this book ... we just want to get high!

Johnny Cloud was perhaps the most complex superhero in the DC War Comics universe. Few readers appreciated that Cloud was an Avatar of the Great Warrior Spirit known to us as his Big Brother in the Sky. Cloud was introduced in All American Men of War in December 1960 with occasional appearances in G.I. Combat and Our Army at War. His last adventure appeared in March 1968 fighting alongside the indomitable Sgt. Rock. All told thirty-eight Johnny Cloud stories were published before his star faded. His character was resurrected in The Losers series, but this is a different man.

My book examines each of the 38 Johnny Cloud stories and tabulates everything there is to know about the Navajo Ace from his extraordinary powers to his tortured psyche to his combat record. He was invincible, yet he never quite appreciated his destiny -- that is to serve the Great Warrior Spirit. Even his creator, the prolific and irascible Robert Kanigher, did not fully appreciate the character he developed for his friend, and favored artist, Irv Novick.

My book briefly reviews the emergence of DC War Comics and explores the styles of the artists who depicted Johnny Cloud on the page. So too, several sections examine the writing of Kanigher (and Bob Haney). Also, the weapons of war are explored ... all those Me-109s and Fw-190s and so on. Plus, all of Cloud's dogfighting tactics are examined in detail, half-loops to barrel rolls to jinks. Finally, this book offers a ready template for those geeks out there who want to do the same for our other heroes such as Sgt. Rock and Enemy Ace and so on.

I hope that you will find this book fun to read. My writing style is as shown in the blog.

The book is available from big online book sellers, but I have a small stash that I will sell for the reduced price of $15 postpaid (until they run out). I will sign all books that I sell and will include an added Johnny Cloud character summary that I am sure readers will enjoy. You can contact me via E-Mail address: mykshutty@yahoo.com. I will provide details then. In the meantime, I encourage you to go out and find some of these great Johnny Cloud stories.
